Dad Was Here :)

Tonight was a great night.  Ray had spent all day outside in the cold and on a 20' ladder on the side of a building that was not exposed to the sun.  It was VERY cold and windy.  He ended up getting back to his office and then having to stay late to work on problems that came in during the day.  I expected him to come home grumpy, tired, and cold.  Well, he was tired and cold, but what surprised me was after sitting and eating dinner (which we finished by ourselves because the kids finished earlier) he jumped right in and helped check Elizabeth's math homework.

Now this is no small feat.  She has 30 math problems that I try and check every night. She's in the fourth grade, so it's not simple addition and subtraction. He whooppd and cheered with every one that she got correct and then whooped and chided her kiddingly when she got them wrong. He then worked with her to explain and teach her what she didn't understand.  He even drew an explanation on her math sheet and when Liz went to erase it, he said "You just tell your teacher that I did it and if she has a problem she can come see me" and then he wrote "Dad Was Here" with a smiley face.

Not only did he put all of his own fatigue to the side, but he then decided to help with homework.  By doing this he really bonded with Liz in a way that is not normal for our family.  She even said later "Dad should be a teacher."  I agree.
