Tonight was a great night. Ray had spent all day outside in the cold and on a 20' ladder on the side of a building that was not exposed to the sun. It was VERY cold and windy. He ended up getting back to his office and then having to stay late to work on problems that came in during the day. I expected him to come home grumpy, tired, and cold. Well, he was tired and cold, but what surprised me was after sitting and eating dinner (which we finished by ourselves because the kids finished earlier) he jumped right in and helped check Elizabeth's math homework. Not only did he put all of his own fatigue to the side, but he then decided to help with homework. By doing this he really bonded with Liz in a way that is not normal for our family. She even said later "Dad should be a teacher." I agree.
